For large capacity deployments, using ZFS RAIDZ2 or RAIDZ3 is common. One of the well known problems in ZFS is the RAID rebuild time is linearly proportional to the used capacity of the pool. For large capacities above 500TB, resilvering time can exceed days if the IO activity on the pool continues to be high.

CloudByte ElastiStor 2.0 has made a significant technical enhancement to the ZFS stack to make the rebuild time constant. With 2.0 software, customers will see the rebuild time reduction of more than 10 fold to 20 fold in cases where the capacity of the pool exceeds few hundred terabytes and the IO is active.

Disk latency improvements

No adverse latency when disks go bad in the production environments

ElastiStor 2.0 is resilient to the underlying disk latency issues. It is common to notice that the disks sometimes go into quasi-bad state. The disks are functional but the latencies shoot up. ElastiStor 2.0 firmware comes with improved ZFS stack that handles this situation and continues to offer the expected latencies through ZVOLS and ZFS filesystems.

Local and Remote Data Protection
